This year we were blessed with good weather all weekend, for which everyone was thankful following the previous couple of years. This helped increase the number of exhibitors of cars, military, bikes, stationary engines, tractors, commercials, Steam Engines, stalls and crafts. With the increase of exhibitors we also saw a rise in visitors to the show which continues to grow year on year.
The arena events included displays from Adams Axemen, working dogs and The Wessex Birds of Prey. The exhibitors also in turn paraded their vintage vehicles in the arena and spoke briefly about their exhibit for those watching and listening.
We had a range of entertainment in the beer tent on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night consisting of a disco, The Black Sheep and Voodoo Chilli which catered for all ages and tastes. In addition to this there was light entertainment in the afternoon.
The Saturday morning auction and Sunday morning car boot sale were both well attended.
On Saturday afternoon a tractor run was held. The participants left the rally site and headed down to Norden, through Arne taking in the scenery, before heading back through Wareham to the rally site. It was the first time we had arranged this and everyone who took part said they enjoyed themselves and requested that it becomes an annual event.
To assist with the promotion of the rally we entered a float in the theme of the Beverly Hillbillies in the Wareham and Swanage carnivals prior to the rally dates. Again we were very lucky with the weather on both occasions. We will also be entering in the Christmas parade through Wareham this year on the 11th December 2011.
As a result of the 2011 Purbeck Rally we are very proud to donate a total of £3000 to assist a number of local charities. Which are Wareham Boy’s Brigade, K.E.R.V, Wareham Sunshine Club, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, Cancare, Wessex Birds of Prey and Swanage & Wareham RFC under 10’s.
We would like to express our thanks to everyone who helped make the Purbeck Rally possible. Thanks to the exhibitors, vendors, volunteers & general public for their continued support. Without their assistance the rally would not be possible and continue to grow to the success we have to date.
